Fair City Guide
For Muenster.Fair
About
The Fair City Guide Münster is a mobile application aimed at promoting
sustainable and ethical consumption by guiding users to local cafés,
restaurants, shops, and engagement opportunities in Münster that meet
fair trade and ecological standards. Originally developed by
Muenster.Fair, the guide serves as a resource for conscious consumers
who want to support local businesses that prioritise ethical and
sustainable practices.
The revamped version of this app is available on both the App Store and
Google Play Store.
My Impact
Redesigning the User Interface
Since the existing design was outdated, I first focused on modernising the application in terms of design, as well as user experience. By creating a cleaner interface from scratch, the app is more pleasing to use and enables Muenster.Fair to gain more users.
Setting up Strapi for easy Content Management
To enable easier content management, I implemented a Strapi backend, an open-source headless CMS that allows administrators to effortlessly manage content in the app. Through this backend, the team at Muenster.Fair can easily update guide-categories, the specific criteria that make each business fair and sustainable and the actual organisations shown in the App.
Dynamic Multi-Platform App Using Expo/React-Native
I developed the Fair City Guide as a cross-platform app for iOS and Android using Expo and React-Native. The app dynamically updates content from the Strapi backend, allowing changes without requiring app updates. In line with Muenster.Fair’s privacy policy, the app functions without user accounts, while still enabling users to save their favourite places in Münster without needing to sign up.

Information Display
For University of Münster
About
As part of my Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems @University of
Münster, I collaborated with a team to create a new information display
system for students. I took on the role of lead designer and frontend
developer, guiding the project’s design and user experience. The system
was designed to run efficiently on a RaspberryPi, providing students
with real-time information and an intuitive campus-navigation.
The information display is live & in use at Leonardo-Campus 3, Münster.
My Impact
Designing the dashboard using Figma
To provide meaningful value (and options), I first designed a Layout for the dashboard and then created mockups using different design-approaches to choose from.
Developing the frontend using NextJS
Since the system would be maintained in spare time by university staff, I focused on building a stable, long-term solution with NextJS. I ensured it was easy to maintain, could handle corrupted data, and optimised performance for the RaspberryPi to ensure smooth operation.
Creating an interactive navigation component
Addressing students’ difficulties in finding lecture halls and professors, I developed an interactive map. It includes clickable campus and building layouts. Users can select rooms to see who works there, or use the search bar to find people, with the map automatically highlighting their office.
